چکیده

The formation of a metallic state at the interface of the bulk insulators LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 [1] has become a prototype for the reconstruction of electronic states in systems with artificially reduced dimensionality. This two-dimensional (2D) electronic system is affected by sizable electronic correlations which allow characterizing the extended interface electronic states as an electron liquid. The correlations not only induce a superconducting state but also support magnetism. An unexplained phenomenon is the coexistence of magnetism and superconductivity in the 2D electron liquid.

Tunnel spectroscopy of superconducting oxide interfaces

By joining LaAlO3 and SrTiO3, a conducting two-dimensional electron liquid (2-DEL) is formed at the contact area where these insulators meet [1]. At low temperatures this liquid is a two-dimensional superconductor [2] in which superconductivity surprisingly coexists with magnetic order [3–5]. Although interface superconductors are rare and have been recognized as candidates for superconductivit...

Gate-tunable polarized phase of two-dimensional electrons at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface.

Controlling the coupling between localized spins and itinerant electrons can lead to exotic magnetic states. A novel system featuring local magnetic moments and extended 2D electrons is the interface between LaAlO3 and SrTiO3. The magnetism of the interface, however, was observed to be insensitive to the presence of these electrons and is believed to arise solely from extrinsic sources like oxy...

Polarity-tunable magnetic tunnel junctions based on ferromagnetism at oxide heterointerfaces

Complex oxide systems have attracted considerable attention because of their fascinating properties, including the magnetic ordering at the conducting interface between two band insulators, such as LaAlO3 and SrTiO3. However, the manipulation of the spin degree of freedom at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterointerface has remained elusive. Here, we have fabricated hybrid magnetic tunnel junctions consist...

Origin of interface magnetism in BiMnO3/SrTiO3 and LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructures.

Possible ferromagnetism induced in otherwise nonmagnetic materials has been motivating intense research in complex oxide heterostructures. Here we show that a confined magnetism is realized at the interface between SrTiO3 and two insulating polar oxides, BiMnO3 and LaAlO3. By using polarization dependent x-ray absorption spectroscopy, we find that in both cases the magnetism can be stabilized b...
